Jack is obviously not a Dachshund or a Doberman Pinscher, but he IS the reason I am very adamant about my pups going to good homes. I bought him at a sheriff's sale after a puppy mill was closed down, and 88 dogs and pups were removed from the premises. He was 3 months old and weighed 19.6 lbs. He should have weighed about 50. He had worms, respiratory infection, digestive tract infection and rickets. He was one of the healthier ones. We made a lot of trips to the vet his first 2 years, correcting health problems. We knew before he was a year old that he had hip displaysia. I went into buying him with my eyes open, aware that he had health problems and always would. In spite of his problems, he had a happy life and was very much loved. He had a great disposition and was my best friend and guardian of my family for almost 8 years. I never regretted buying him and still miss him terribly. He grew to 37 1/2" at the wither and weighed in at 200 lbs. What I learned from him was to have a very strong dislike of people who care more about the income they can make from puppies than the health and welfare of the animals in their care. He is the reason that I require vet statements that buyers are able and willing to care for any pup they buy from me, and why I try to get to know each buyer before handing over any of my babies. He is now at rest and out of pain, buried in our north pasture. The collage is made up of pictures of his last summer with us.
